I don't think there's anyone that doesn't want skin that's soft and beautiful. For many of us, it's a confusing subject. There are a lot of factors that contribute to the way our skin looks and how it ages. But, did you know that you can help your skin look healthier just by watching what foods you consume? Here are some the best foods that your skin needs.

Fruits and vegetables - If you include fruits and vegetables into your diet on a daily basis, you'll be providing nutrition to your skin. Great examples are garlic, onion and pepper. Those are ingredients you can add to almost any meal you make. And the old wives tale is true - cucumber slices do help reduce dark circles under your eyes. Although, you won't notice a difference if you don't do it on a regular basis. Daily is recommended. This is why you see cucumber as ingredient in many skin care products.

Essential fatty acids - (Omegas 3, 6 & 9) Fatty acids actually improve skin elasticity and provide protein to your hair and nails. Fish oil is a great way to improve the condition of your skin, hair and nails. Fatty acids also will reduce acne. Although fish is the best source of fatty acids, you can also get this by eating foods such as walnuts, cabbage and broccoli. Check labels. Some yogurts and margarines do contain the essential fatty acids you need.

Green tea - Not only is green tea relaxing, but it also has anti-inflammatory properties. Studies have shown people who drink green tea regularly have a less risk of developing skin cancers by reducing the risk of damage from the sun's ultraviolet rays.

Water - Water is fabulous for every major system in your body. If your body doesn't have enough water, your skin will become dry. Drink 6-8 glasses of water daily and you'll also help maintain flexibility.

Avocado - The "miracle fruit." This fruit has anti-aging qualities and helps reduce dryness. This is another fruit found in many skin care products. Avocados actually are high in fat. But, most of the fat contained it them are good. So, one avocado a week would be great. Or, include it as an ingredient in your salads. But, if you don't like avocados, you can make your own avocado facial at home.

Citrus fruit juices - Drinking juice, such as orange juice, prevents sun damage to your skin. Honestly, it doesn't help all that much. But, in addition to the other health benefits orange juice provides, this is an added small bonus.

Low-fat dairy foods - Yogurt, cheese and milk are rich in Vitamin A, which is great for achieving healthy skin. The bacteria in yogurt makes your skin fair and healthy.

Eggs - Eggs contain protein that helps repair damaged skin cells. Add a dab of egg whites to your shampoo and your hair will look more thick and glossy. Angela Cisco gives some great advice on how to make beauty products from eggs for any skin type, including some shampoos.
