Some foods may taste great, but they digest so quickly and drop sugar levels that they encourage overeating and appetite rather than satiate hunger. This means, you can easily just eat, and keep on eating and eating and piling on those calories (and yuck- those pounds) and not even really feel full. Learn the nasty foods that actually make you hungrier rather than feel full, so you know what foods to avoid.
Anything that contains MSG lowers your blood sugar, which makes your body crave more food to replenish that energy that low blood sugar causes. Which makes Top Ramen (a very popular standby since it's so cheap) a poor choice for eating. Besides the fact that Top Ramen contains basically no nutritional value and is loaded with sodium (even if you skip the flavor packet you are still consuming tons of fried noodles), eating Top Ramen plummets your blood sugar so you will be opening that pantry within just a few minutes to finally feel full.
Potato chips and tortilla chips are empty calories that don't really make you feel full, either- why do you think you can eat the whole bag and not feel full? Again, that MSG plays a big role in the inability to feel full on the food, but another nasty side effect is all that salt and artificial flavoring that adds no nutrition to speak of. Since the food tastes damn good (I won't lie) you'll keep eating, but with no reward.
High fat or high sugar foods, which means basically all pastries and anything fried, won't fill you up. Again, they digest quickly and mess with your sugar levels, so you can devour a corn dog or a whole bucket of fried chicken and still have room for more. There is simply no substance other than flavor in high fat and high sugar foods, which means you are adding on the calories without even feeling any semblence of fullness. No bueno.
Oddly enough, carbohydrates can make you eat and eat and eat without feeling full, so you should avoid plain bagels, plain pasta, or just white rice. These carbohydrates won't fill you up, but they will pack on some quick energy that will leave you refilling that plate. What you want is foods with substance, which means fiber.
Avoiding these types of foods doesn't mean you can't have your snacks, or that you can't enjoy your pastries. It just simply means that you choose baked chips over fried (or go with crackers with some cheese), you have a wheat bagel or whole wheat pasta, brown rice perhaps. When it comes to Top Ramen, at least substitute that flavor pack with a low-sodium soup flavoring instead. Just remember- if it's high in sugar or high in fat, or if it has any MSG at all in it, you can expect to eat and eat, and never feel full.
