If you do an Internet search about "foods that slow aging", you will find a lot of articles on the topic. What you will not find on the first few pages are articles by medical or research sources. Also, when people are looking to slow aging, they are actually looking for ways to prolong life. Here's a look at foods that slow aging myths.

High Antioxidant Foods that Slow Aging. Antioxidants are known to fight free radicals that do damage throughout the body as we age. Whole, natural foods may contain more antioxidants, but no one food or group has been proven to actually prolong life.

Here is an article on the top antioxidant-packed foods. These foods are good for you and can help to maintain or improve your health, but eating certain foods alone will not prolong life beyond any conditions they may help reduce or prevent.

Research on Supplements and Foods that Slow Aging. Taking diet supplements to slow aging has been shown to not be effective as shown in an article on CNN. Also, claims that certain hormones that have been touted to slow aging are not only false, but can have harmful side effects as well. Mayo Clinic discusses human growth hormone (HGH) and dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA).

The only research to date regarding food and aging shows that long term calorie restriction and other dietary restrictions have been helpful to reduce aging and prolong life in rats and flies. Many studies have been done over the years on this phenomenon.

Foods that Slow Aging Myths. That simply eating specific foods alone can slow aging is a myth. There is some substance to the beliefs that a combination of healthy foods, exercise, staying away from harmful habits (such as smoking) and reducing stress among others is a way to slow aging. Also, certain foods can reduce age-related health conditions that could shorten your life. So in a way, these foods can slow aging or prolong your life.

Eating a healthy diet is one part of keeping your body healthy to help increase your quality of life. Although you may not be able to actually prolong your life beyond reducing the risk of certain conditions, you can reduce the impact that aging has on your body with healthy food choices.
