Foodsaver Vac 1050: Why You Need One

I am addicted to kitchen gadgets.Having seen the Foodsaver infomercials, I wondered if I would really use it and if it would really make a difference. Finally, I decided to ask for one as a birthday gift from my mom, a fellow gadget addict. .We researched together and found the 1050 to be just right, with enough features to get the job done, but not too expensive. I have now had a Foodsaver Vac 1050 for 3 years. I could NOT live with out it! It is a must have for families on a budget!

I hardly ever throw anything out and have found that it works great on things that were never even advertised, like milk. I use a wide mouth jar and pour my milk in and seal. I have had no problems using the jar sealer and it keeps milk fresher much longer-which is great when buying larger quantities on sale. I also use if for flour and sugar etc... It works wonderfully well for leftovers as well. No more throwing food out because it didn't get eaten in time!

With a large family that is always on the go, I like to make large quantities of certain things, like spaghetti sauce, and freeze them. Then on a busy night after soccer practice, we can come home, pull out a bag of sauce and quickly thaw it out for use rather than wasting money on fast food because there was no time to cook. I have made up a bunch of homemade burritos and sealed them up for future lunches. You can even put a leftover meal on a plastic plate and seal it up just like a homemade frozen TV dinner. My husband goes to work with lunches that his co-workers are envious of. The possibilties are really just about endless!

I love buying meats at rock bottom prices or getting fresh cuts and keeping them fresh until it is time to cook them. The marinating option is also fantastic as you can marinate meats in only thirty minutes. What's amazing is that our friends have even commented on how useful the FoodSaver is and how impressed they are with how well it works. Sending a friend home with leftovers sealed up and telling them that they can eat it any time later in the week or freeze it for up to a year is great, and even better when they remark how delicious the food was several days later.

I also have the canisters and use the large one for bread. It works great since we eat homemade bread and it doesn't usually stay fresh as long as store bought bread does. Not a problem with the FoodSaver!

The bags are a little expensive but well worth it, in my opinion. I turn them inside out and wash them in the upper rack of the dishwasher for repeat use. Besides, those ziploc or Glad bags and containers are not really that cheap either. This machine really will pay for itself in no time. It is a real solution!

All that is really left to say is "You NEED to get one of these!" They're great.
