Footage of Marilyn Monroe Allegedly Smoking Pot Sells for $275,000

According to Reuters, a private collector purchased footage of Marilyn Monroe smoking marijuana over five decades ago at an informal get-together. The collector, Keya Morgan, bought the film for $275,000 from a woman who asked CNN only to refer to her as Gretchen. Gretchen claims to have shot the footage, confirming that it was a marijuana cigarette and not just a regular cigarette being smoked by the legendary Hollywood icon.

A clip of the home movie can be seen here.

Morgan learned of the film while researching a documentary on Monroe's 1962 death and sought out to purchase it.

The high selling price of the film is a reflection on how hungry people still are for a glimpse into the personal life of this tragically beautiful and mysterious star. She captivates the world for so many reasons. She was gorgeous and charismatic. She seemingly rose above a life filled with sorrow and hardships, finding fame and celebrity status. Marilyn Monroe had ties to the Kennedy family. Preserved in memory as a youthful beauty, Monroe's death continues to be debated. Was it suicide or homicide? The world will probably never know for sure.

But one thing is certain, as long as people find personal memorabilia of Monroe, there are people out there willing to pay big bucks for a piece of her, even if it is just a short movie of Marilyn (allegedly) getting high.
