Football Cake Recipe and Design

A football cake is good for many occasions. It is good for football parties, general sports parties, homecomings, and birthday parties. It can be both easy and fun to make. There are two main ways you can serve the cake; with or without a rectangular or square base. No matter which you choose, a football cake pan is needed. I recommend Wilton's First and Ten Pan. Next, you'll need a square or rectangular cake pan if you are making a base. You'll also need one or two boxes of your favorite cake mix, again, depending on whether you are making a base or 'field'. You'll also need one or two cans of frosting. Preferably buy a vanilla and a chocolate.

Next, follow your cake mix's instructions on baking and fill the football cake pan. If you are making a base, repeat this step on the square or rectangular cake pan. After the cakes have baked and cooled, frost the base cake. Now, place the football cake on top of the other cake. Frost the football cake carefully. I suggest using food coloring in your frosting. I would frost the base cake using green frosting and the football using either brown food coloring or chocolate frosting. You can use white icing to decorate the finer details of the football. Consider incorporating your favorite team's colors on either the base or the football cake itself. Also think about writing your team's name on the base cake.

Like I said before, a football cake can be used on many different occasions. A football cake is just more interesting than a regular one, what can I say? You can go in any direction with your cake. You can do team names, player names, team colors, different colored footballs... Anything you can imagine on this cake, you can do. As always, I hope you enjoy your cake and have fun decorating it too.
