Football Season: Time for a Top 3 Football Video Game Review

In My Opinion You Just Can't Go Wrong with Any One of These Three Football Video Games

Rob Korczak
It's football season and while having football on the brain it seemed pretty obvious that what was needed was a top 3 football video games article according to this football video game fan.

I want to clear something up, this football video game list is in no particular order as these are three very different games and it wouldn't be fair to place one above another.

One thing I promise you is that these three football video games will definitely entertain you and hold your attention.

Let's start with the Mother of all football video games, Madden NFL 11.

It's a safe bet that every Football fan gamer has some version of the Madden NFL Football video game. There is an excellent reason for that, the Madden NFL games look stunning, play extremely well and are downright fun. Madden NFL 11 is no different and follows the model of it's predecessors in that the video game franchise keeps improving upon the previous release.

So what has changed in the latest release? Those of you who have grown attached to the "turbo button" may at first be disappointed as it is no longer part of the game. Honestly, this is not a negative as you soon forget that it ever existed. Your player just "naturally" adjusts his speed, which in my opinion is a lot more natural.

Many of the "complexities" of game control have been reworked so that everyone can enjoy the game with simpler to use controls on the game-pad while at the same time retaining the excellent game play. Madden NFL 11 is simply a fun game with stunning graphics which will allow any Football fan to enjoy playing.

When you boil things down there is far less trying to figure out how to do different moves with the controller and a lot more football. Aside from the departure of the "turbo" button I love the fact that the artificial intelligence (AI) teammates have grown smarter as they now land successful blocks. So as it is in football it also is in Madden NFL 11 Football, you're finally on a team with relatively intelligent teammates.

NCAA Football 11 from EA Sports is probably my favorite football video game out there. Some of the reasons for this are tangible and some are not but I'll do my best to explain.

This latest edition is probably the most visually stunning of the series and I don't think anyone will argue with me about that. The game is just visually attractive all the way to it's core with tons of details and a new gaming engine.

You can actually see the expressions on the players faces, if that's not attention to detail and a well made stunningly beautiful game then I don't know what is. I'm sure that the ESPN graphics have a lot, if not everything, to do with the look of this game.

Now the bad news is that the game isn't perfect and sometimes there is some image clipping but it's not a constant problem. Players sometimes getting "stuck" is another quirk that is annoying but it's also rare and shouldn't be a big problem.

The game feels more authentic then ever before which is very obvious from the get go. You are playing Football and shouldn't be distracted with "gamey" moves and actions and in this game that's exactly the way it is.

I can tell you that you'll love the authenticity of the game play. One of the nicest changes in the game is that you can actually perform super realistic blocking which wasn't all that true in previous versions.

If you really want me to give you a one word reason to buy or play this game then that word would be "authentic."

Football Mogul 2011 is another game that I personally enjoy but realize that it's not for everyone. This is a PC game and is text based so it won't rank as highly with many gamers due to the fact that there is a lack of visual game-play. What appeals to me about this game is that like the title implies, this game is more about the "behind the scenes" type of stuff that makes the game of Football possible.

One of my favorite aspects is that you can play any and all seasons from the time of the AFL-NFL merger which covers the years of 1970-2010. The fact that you get accurate ratings for each and every player just gives me a warm feeling and appeals to my detail oriented nature.

In my view of things, any video game that lets you play a team from 1975 against a team from 2010 is doing something right. Obviously these games will never take place in real life, unless we do develop a time machine so this video game gives you something special in that regard. This is fantasy football taken to a whole new level.

So there you have it, three very different games that are likely to keep you happy for many months to come. So, are you ready to play some Football?
