There are thousands of high schools across the nation, and each has its own unique talent and things it's known for. When you hear about Foothill High School, the one thing it's known for nationwide is it's outstanding marching band. Foothill HS marching band is located in Pleasanton, CA, and competes in the NCBA band competition. When Foothill HS was created, Band director Bob Moorefield started the Foothill HS marching. In the beginning they had a hard time, but as the years went by, it was improving at an incredible rate. It started gaining a huge reputation nationwide and is now one of the greatest marching bands in the nation today. Bob Moorefield still teaches and leads the great foothill marching band to this day. His 30+ years of establishing this marching band made him a legend.

The foothill marching band consists of from 200-300 marchers in the band annually and is probably the rank 1 High School marching band in the division they compete in. They are known for getting Sweepstakes and invitations to many famous competitions such as the Hawaii invitation, were the Fiesta Bowl champions in 2006, several invitations to the Rose Bowl Parade, and much more. The goal of many marching bands in the competitions are to beat the great Foothill marching band, but the excellence they perform doesn't come easily. Just like any other band, they practice and is focused hours a day outside during band camp. When school starts, they practice every morning before school starts and an extra Tuesday night practices until the season is over. Additionally, the pit and drumline have practices on Thursday nights. This consistent practice habits of their excellent technique helps them keep their reputation of excellency throughout the year. The band is great at both parade and their amazing field show at the competitions, beating even the High Schools that only do either just parade or just field show.

Not only does the Foothill HS do well in parade and field show, their jazz band and wind ensemble is incredibly good as well. They practice everyday constantly and contains fine musicians that are committed and practice daily and strive to become better. They know in order to keep their reputation that they need to work hard everyday. Several of these musicians make the California all state band annually demonstrating their outstanding individual skills. It shows that the band consists of numerous talented musicians. This year in 2008, they have been invited to lead the Fiesta Bowl parade and compete in the competition. They will also be participating in the Spring Hawaii competition where they will compete against lots of other outstanding bands.

The students of Foothill marching band is absolutely into the band. As one of the former foothill marching band members, I want to let everyone know how amazing it is. The friends, the memories, even the hard practices all become good memories you can look back to later. It's an unforgettable experience and my favorite part of High School. I will never forget how much fun I had as a member of the Foothill Marching Band. I you're going to Foothill, join the marching band. You will not regret this amazing experience!
