I Forgot!

Marcia Gunnett Woodard
SCRIPTURE - Luke 24:1-8

February 1, 2010

"I forgot!"

How many of us have heard these words from a child? How often have we said them ourselves? Someone important-a friend, a family member, a boss-has asked us to perform a crucial task or remember some vital fact, but we just... forgot. We may have been stressed or worried. Maybe we were simply caught up in the everyday routine, but the fact remains...we forgot. We knew how important it was, but it slipped our minds.

The same kind of thing happened to the women in today's Scripture. They had been caught up in the sorrow of watching Jesus die. They were overwhelmed by the fear that engulfed them. In the flood of emotions, they forgot His words to them. They forgot His promise of resurrection power.

We shake our heads in disbelief at the early disciples' forgetfulness. How could they forget such an important fact? Too often, though, we're equally guilty of forgetting the Savior's words. We lose a job. The doctor says our condition is incurable. We face the loss of someone we love. Confronted with what seem like impossible circumstances, we panic and forget the resurrection power available to us.

But regardless of our circumstances, God promises us His great power for us who believe, like He displayed when He raised Christ from the dead. We can experience Christ's resurrection power in our lives...we just need to remember His words!

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, help me to look to You and to Your strength for my cares. May I always seek Your face. Never let me forget the wonders You have done. Amen.
