For All Who Have Lost a Loved One

Nancie Norton
It's so hard when you lose someone you love
You hurt deep within your heart
You may wonder if it will ever get better
If the time will come, when you'll be able to start

The process that will bring an end to this pain
All this grieving, it seems you must go through
In order for your heart and soul to heal.... Lord
Going through it is so very hard to do

It takes so long, you think that you'll never
Feel like a whole person again
But as days and months go by, you find
That time, sweet time, can be your kindest friend

God has a way with your memories
They block out some of the sadness, death brings
As time goes on.... the healing begins
You start remembering so many things

The way he combed his hair
Or, how she would wink at you
The things he would say to tease you
All those little things that she used to do

You won't be sure exactly when
But you'll begin to be able to smile
And sometimes, there will even be laughter
Emotions... that you haven't felt in a while

One day, those tears and memories
Will take up less of your time
If you let it, life will embrace you
You'll begin to have feelings,of a different kind

There will always be an empty place
In your heart, that no other can fill
But God,and your memories will be there to give
A peace to your soul as your heart continues to heal.

Fantastic Nancy, I have missed reading your work. You know you have truly moved on when the pain is replaced by gratitude for having spent part of your life with someone who touched your heart.

This is stunningly beautiful. I lost a cousin that I helped to raise to murder. I've never gotten over that, especially since his murdered got off scott free. She was the daughter of the sheriff.
