For Britney Spears, Will How I Met Your Mother Get a Repeat Performance?

When the producers of "How I Met Your Mother" decided to bring in Britney Spears to make a guest appearance, not everyone was happy. Or so it seemed. Neil Patrick Harris was quoted as saying that using celebrities for stunt casting would hurt the show. USA Today covered the episode and the controversy of Harris wanting her banned from the show.

According to hollywood.com, however, Harris is quoted saying those were taken out of context and would love to see her return to reprise her role. The first episode Brits appeared on was a hit, her role was small and showed her as a receptionist for the doctor Ted was seeing. Or rather trying to see! Whether or not Harris simply changed his mind about having her on the show, or was truly righting a mis-quoted statement, we may never know. According to Neil she did a great job on the show. Resulting in some of the highest ratings the show has ever had.

Neil Patrick Harris, is very proud of the show, and realizes his place as an actor. The producers and directors call the shots and have shown themselves worthy of their jobs. However, he is also very protective. The truth of the matter is, Harris fears the show will turn into a celebrity free for all, like some of the more popular shows in the past would do. Usually just in time for sweeps.

High ratings are important for most shows, "How I Met Your Mother" has a cult following that hopefully will allow them to surpass the need to pull stunts to get more viewers. So, will we see Britney Spears return in the Fall lineup for a recurring guest role? Only time will tell, and while I will definitely be watching the show, that is not the reason why!
