For Christy: A Down Syndrome Kid Full of Love

I Miss Her Every Day

Sherri Thornhill
Your birthday is here
But you are not
Not in body
But always in spirit
Forever in my heart
I miss your smile
I long for your hugs
Just one more time
To hear your laughter
To feel your joy

I miss listening to you sing
Streets of Bakersfield
Asking to hear it
"One more time, one more time!"
Watching your face light up
As you opened presents
Knowing your raised arms
Showed your excitement
In seeing a dollar bill in your card
Bringing cheer to all

You gave your love freely
Seeing the good in everyone
And you made us better for it
You brought us together
When no one else could
You had Down's Syndrome
But it never had you
Your heart beat weak
Yet your heart was strong
We love and miss you every day

Happy Birthday Sis..

Christy's drawing of "Texas Cockroaches" was used on cups and clothing to raise money for her school, ran by the United Cerebral Palsy. They referred to her as having "no malice of heart", and they were right.
