For Clayton

Jesse Lee

Goodnight me dear son,

for this long day is done.

Say farewell to the day,

because the sun can no longer stay.

Leave the toys in their places,

as the flowers outside hide their faces.

Watch as the sky goes dark,

and remember our day in the park.

As the birds slowly stop flapping their wings,

dream fondly of the swings.

Dream of swimming and running,

remember laughing and cheering.

Close your eyes slowly now,

as my candle quickly burns out.

Sleep well and goodnight,

I will return with the morning light.
