For My Father

Coral Levang
Decades have passed quickly
And our journeys took the both of us down different paths.
Don't think for a moment that throughout the years, I
Didn't think of you or need you time and time again.
Yet somehow we lost one another and our connection,
Sadly falling into a trap...buying into a lie that neither of us mattered to the other.

Life doesn't stop for us to grow up or grow beyond foolish stubbornness.
Instead, it relentlessly continues
T
ick-tocking until the day we both look into our prospective mirrors
To see the cruel, heartless joke that time has played on us.
Little do we realize (until it's too late)
Every minute we wasted on silence robbed us of precious memories we might have had.

Girlish dreams eventually faded, replaced with bitter truths
I never fully understood.
Reality's pride may go to the grave, but know that my
Love for you...will never die.

I loved this. I recently published a poem about Father's Day. I also just submitted a poem entitled "Remembering" for those who have forgotten what Memorial Day is all about. Please check it out once it is published. Please view my other pieces as well and let me know what you think.
