For Fathers

A Poem for Their Day

Louisa Burgess
A father can be good or not so great
he can be always prompt or usually late

He can be forgetful or never forget
a concert a ballgame or your name

Fathers in all sizes and shapes
they do their best they sometimes fail

At your side is where they want to be
scrapped knees and homework the birth of your son

Advice that doesn't always work
a handshake and a hug that always does

A father a dad a mentor and more
one day of the year doesn't do it at all
