Kabob and Curry is one of the Indian restaurants in Providence, RI which offers both vegetarian and vegan menus. It entices you with mouth-watering Indian cuisine in an atmosphere that is inviting. Listen to soft Indian music while you dine either downstairs in the solarium or upstairs in a room set up not only for regular dining but their Sunday buffets and occasional parties. There are several selections to choose from, all reasonably priced meals which leave you satisfied.
Begin your meal with appetizers. The Vegetarian Sampler, which includes two vegetable samosas, two vegetable pakoras, one aloo ki tikki and one paneer tikka, is available for the price of $7.50 for either lunch or dinner.
If you enjoy Dosas and or Wraps, Kabob and Curry serves these until 3 pm at the small cost of $6.50. The dosas are thin crispy pancakes made from a batter of rice and lentils and grilled to order. You will find them accompanied by sambar (lentil sauce) and chutney. Your choices of seasoned potato or mushroom masala will tickle your taste buds. The spinach wraps, equally tantalizing, come with portabella mushrooms and chick peas.
As far as entries go, most of them are available for lunch and dinner at the following prices - Lunch $6.25 Dinner 10.50
Unless you have a favorite, you'll find it difficult to choose from all that is offered, from Alu Gobhi - Steamed cauliflower stir fried with potatoes, herbs and spices, with your choice of: cottage cheese, potatoes or tofu to Baingan Bharta - A North Indian specialty of roasted eggplant, skinned and stir fried into and exotic preparation.
Enjoy the intense aroma coming from the kitchen, as the chef prepare your Bhindi Masala - Okra diced and sautéed with onions, tomatoes and spices and Biryani - Basmati rice flavored with aromatic spices and cooked with your choice of vegetables or just mushrooms.
The Chana Masala - Chick peas cooked with spices is served with your choice of basmati rice pilaf or naan bread. You can even substitute the stuffed naan for only $1 more.
Don't forget to try a mattar -tender peas cooked in our homemade herb sauce with your choice of cottage cheese (Mattar Paneer), potatoes (Alu Mattar) or tofu (Tofu Mattar)
Interestingly named is the Navrattan Curry. Meaning nine jewels, it is a creamy mixed delectable vegetable preparation.
You will find the delicately spiced spinach in the Saag entry is cooked with your choice of cottage cheese, potato or tofu as in the mattar entries.
Creamy, rich onion gravy with nuts, raisins and vegetable dumplings are what make up the Vegetable Kofta.
And if your really adventurous, try the Vegetable Mango Curry. Its a fresh vegetable medley cooked to perfection, right within the mango itself.
There are several entries which can only be enjoyed at dinner time at Kabob and Curry, but the wait is well worth it.
Two vegan entries are offered, both at the price of only $13.99. They are the Fish Curry, consisting of fresh tilapia filets poached in an aromatic sauce and the South Indian Shrimp Curry, shrimp cooked with portabella mushrooms in a mild yet flavorful coconut and cashew nut paste sauce.
The three vegetarian entries are also very reasonably priced at $10.50. The Dhabey Ki Dal will conjure up in your mind the mixed lentil preparation that is dished up in the stalls on the highways of India. Of course if you want to really set things ablaze, try the Goan Vegetable Curry. You'll find the assorted vegetables cooked in a traditional "chili" hot and tangy Goan curry will have your tongue dancing the bhangra. And last, but by no means least is the Shahi Panir, chunks of cottage cheese in an aromatic tomato sauce with green peppers, onions, nuts and raisins ... Yum!
Kabob and Curry also offers Catering Services which include appetizers, main courses and party trays in various amounts, depending on how many/much you require. You will find that there are selections that are quite different from what is offered for the regular dining experience in the restaurant itself.
