For His Glory

I Am Not a Singer nor a Writer, I Am a Servant

Julie Sadie
Been busy lately with our church's Musical Cantata practices to be staged this 13th of December . Yes, I am a part of the choir! For those who knew me way back then, it would be a surprise to know that I can sing.

Singing had been my "hidden" passion. Hidden, because I am not gifted with a great voice. I'd say I am an average singer. I am even coy to sing in a crowd. In grade school, I lost in a singing competition. In high school, I was rejected when I auditioned for the school choir. After all those failures, I am also surprised, at the same time, thankful, that I'll be a part of this big Christmas stage production that will serve as an evangelistic event.

My reason for joining the choir is to be just involved in a ministry in the church. It's been a long time already since I actively served the Lord. But weekends after weekends, after every practices, there's a joy in my heart I cannot contain. I'm surely enjoying what I am doing. But apart from that fact, I know it's more than the singing.

Last Sunday, we gave the congregation a taste of the cantata by singing Joy to the World. Earlier, during the Praise and Worship, I was moved by the song "We are an Offering". Lyrics as follow:

We lift our voices, we lift our hands
We lift our lives up to You
We are an offering.

Lord use our voices, Lord use our hands
Lord use our lives they are Yours
We are an offering.

All that we have, all that we are
All that we hope to be we give to You
We give to You.

I cried as I sang it with all my heart. It then occurred to me that the reason why I have joy in my heart every time we practiced is because I am doing it for the Lord. I am singing for the Lord. I may not have a great voice, but for the Lord, it is a pleasing aroma of worship. I may not be aware of my heart's motive in joining the choir, but it is really the Lord who sees the content of my heart. As it is written in 1 Samuel 16:7, "For the LORD sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the LORD looks on the heart."

The song also reminded me of my pursuit in writing. It was not by accident that I happen to read from Yahoo about ideas for earning while at home and found AC. The Lord has directed me to the right site at the right time. It is a blessing to know that as I am inspired by other contributors, I also inspire others to write. Writing, can also be a form of service to God as long as it is for His glory. In Colossians 3:23-24, it says, "Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ."

It made me understand that serving God doesn't necessarily mean you have to be in a choir, or in the dance ministry, or you should be a preacher, a missionary, an evangelist, etc. Serving God is doing anything for His glory. "So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all for the glory of God." (1 Corinthians 10:31)

For these reasons, I make the song my personal prayer, "Lord use my voice, Lord use my hands, Lord use my life, I am Yours. I am an offering. All that I have, all that I am, all that I hope to be, I give to you."

(Scripture verse from English Standard Version Bible)

my dear I am truly blessed by this one. I must say that it has been more than 2 yrs. now that I haven't really been doing a concistent physical ministry and you know me and my writings...I felt that I have fully put it aside for a while because of all the wrong reason but I haven't loose hope and my dreams are still alive...I just really need to discern & hear God clearly and not myself. GodBless you more Julz! I'm truly proud of you and truly thankful to God for you & the works He is doing in your life & mine.

Yes, Amen & Amen my friend. You are so right. We all have reason to praise Him, & His Holy, Rightouess Name. Yes, writing for His glory & Jesus' Name uplifted is a great purpose, perhaps yours I feel. I can sense Jesus leaping out of your heart into your hands to write for His glory & to tell others about Him. I give you a "Thumbs Up" on this & pray you continue to write for Him & Jesus Name be lifted up. Let us all serve Him with gladness & joy. Thanks, & "thumbs up"...again! : - )
