For the Love of My Kids, a Father

Sebastian Thomas
As a father, having kids is truly a blessing. The love they show you daily is incomparable to anything else in this world. To know that they look up to you like a god and expect you to guide them as they know that you will never hurt them, is simply amazing. That is why as a father, you must take thing more carefully. Things like what you say, your actions and certain feelings toward things can effect children in many ways. Even ways that you may not understand. This is to better help them grow.

Of course, every child has it's own individual personality and characteristics. They are like little adults in their small bodies. Sometimes wanting to do and act like an adult. That is until we remind them that they are still a child and must follow proper guided directions. But as I said earlier, the love that they give you is unlike anything else. But keep in mind that you must give them the love they need to begin with. Never withhold love from your children. Didn't you want this kind of love while you were growing up? Do you remember when you were younger and expected more of this out of your parents? It's not so hard. It actually takes a lot more out of you to be angry than to be happy and full of joy. So keep joy in your heart when dealing with your little ones.

Didn't you want more time to play and talk with your parents about different issues in life? Do you know the times when they interrupted you when you were speaking, saying "Adults are speaking now, do not interrupt!" And that you wished you were older so you can join their adult conversation? Kids are aware of everything that you do as a father. So love them freely and be careful on how you approach your communication with them. They may not have the strong minded character that you possess but at the same time assertiveness and compassion is important too.

Nevertheless, for those new fathers that do not know what to expect or if you feel that you are just not ready for this, I tell you this. Nobody is ever ready to have kids. You must dive in and do the best you can for the kids and yourself. You will be surprised and truly happy how it all turns out as they get older. It really makes your life more fulfilling and worth living. You are all they have and there is only one of you. A Father.
