For People Suffering with Allergies, House Hunting is a Nightmare

Carmella Mae Dunkin
When you are faced with moving to a new home, the first thing you do is start looking at houses, apartments, lofts, etc. For some people the thought of looking for a new home, is a horrible nightmare.

If you have allergies, you may already know exactly what I am talking about. If you do not, then come along as we take a look at what it is like for someone with multiple allergies, especially environmental allergies to molds and chemical sensitivities, to go house hunting.

For someone with multiple allergies and sensitivities, house hunting is like living in their worst nightmare. Looking at one house that has allergens, depending on how bad the allergen is, can leave the looker sick for days. Now pile on top of that, most people when looking for a new home, will make multiple appointments back to back, for time sake. Now say that an individual is looking at 5 homes, and three were contaminated. Now you have three times the amount of exposure. For some that is enough to leave them sick for many days, possibly even weeks.

What is bad about this situation, is not only is this individual getting sick from these homes, but they are faced with, trying to hide the fact that the home is making them feel ill, or yelling the owner, "you have a sick house". The problem with telling someone this, is that most people who have not been exposed to these toxins to a point that they have become allergic to them, do not believe that there is such a thing as indoor allergies, and they actually act as though the individual is absolutely out of their minds, crazy!

It is sad that so few understand what it is like for someone with so many allergies that it is nearly impossible to find a home to live in that will not make them sick. There truly are people like this, and it is no fault of their own. They have allergies and sensitivities because they were over exposed to toxic molds, and or chemicals for long periods of time, and now they react to every little thing that is not natural, and even some natural things cause them to react.

Next time you meet someone like this, how about giving them a big hug, they really do need it, and you will make their day by letting them know that you care, and that you don't think they are crazy.
