For Thom

For Thom

I'm still as yet uncertain

What you see when you look into my eyes .

Are we friends...or maybe lovers

Or a pair of useless dreamers, dealing in lies?

Where do you see your place

In the maze of the garden I call my life

What do you need from me...what do you want

Have you ever stopped to ask, in the midst of the strife

And even once you did

I doubt that you wouLd know

What I can't see myself in my added years

For age cannot discover what the soul will not show.

Though we can fly, yet can we love?

Or, like Wendy when she soared with Peter Pan

Must we meet briefly and sweetly in a second world

and try to see the rainbow's end but only find the span.

Don't let your loving come between

What we must see in these short years.

Now hold me near to push me far

When all is gone we keep our fears.
