Ford Edge Promises Driver Comfort and Adequate Economy

Sheri Fresonke Harper
The main reasons we decided to buy a Ford Edge were the comfortable ride for traveling long distances with a reasonably economic price tag. So what features does a Ford Edge offer the automobile consumer? Many of the great automobile features we found on our Ford Edge came as a surprise. Most people want to know the gas mileage, how the seat feels, how the car travels along the road and the sticker price, here's the answers:

Sticker Price on the Ford Edge Provides Adequate Economy

When looking for an automobile, we found the Ford web page very easy to use and providing a wealth of information including what models of automobile are available at what dealer. Here's the link for the Ford Dealership page, simply select the manufacturer and enter your zip code, then read all the listings. In the Orlando area new automobile models are currently listing from $34,000-39,000.

By adequate economy, I mean that the Ford Edge is on the low end of SUV's and trucks and has okay gas mileage, although I shudder to think they cost half the price of my first home and no better gas mileage from that same decade.

Comforts for the Driver in the Ford Edge

The Ford Edge has bucket seats in the front and a 60/40 bench seat in back. The Ford Edge driver has a greater ability to adjust the seat, including a memory restore for two different settings. The Ford Edge front seat will lay back, lift up, lean forward and backward and the switches allow you to find a comfortable driving position. What we learned later was the seats had a seat warmer for cold days and we've used it often. Both seats of the automobile have front and side airbags and the Ford Edge passenger side has a built in detector that notices whether a passenger is seated or not.

The back seats in the automobile will both fold down or leave a small or large area upright and fold the other portion down, allowing the driver to carry a load with ease. A center panel lowers to provide cup holders for the back seat passengers.

Other Ford Edge driver features discovered later was the flexibility of the Audiophile AM/FM CD/MP3 Satellite compatible stereo system which plays up to 6 CDs, built in Microsoft Sync that answers phone calls received on your wireless telephone, cruise control, and programmable garage door opener.

There is adequate storage in the door side panels, the glove compartment, a tray below the radio and in the center console including space for drinks.

The best part for us is we've found that a handicapped visitor and elderly visitors that require support can easily enter and leave the seats of the automobile.

Gas Mileage in the Ford Edge

We've had about 20 miles to the gallon, sometimes more on the Ford Edge. The ride is pretty quiet for the Ford Edge driver and passengers, sound muffled inside. We usually manage to fit the Ford Edge into the ever shrinking parking space slots. The only problem we've had in a year's use of our Ford Edge is a backup warning device that failed to find a tree. This problem was fixed along with the damage to the bumper by an auto repair facility recommended by our insurance.

Overall Impression of the Ford Edge

We like our Ford Edge. For the Ford Edge driver, the automobile feels bigger and less maneuverable compared to our former vehicle, a Subaru Legacy, but it also provides much more comfort in seating, better road visibility from the higher seat, more room to store items, and the many more surprising features specified above.

I would love to get a car.. a Ford, Chevy or whatever.. I don't care.. I'm so tired of not driving. I can't afford a car right now.. so I depend on my daughter and her hubby.

Sounds like a nice car. (Sorry about the tree!)

Right about now, I guess anything is better than a Toyota. We had a Ford years ago but different parts kept getting recalled so we finally sold it since it was a gas guzzler. Glad that things have improved.

Looks good-an interesting thought about 30 years ago we had a car that got about 40 mpg and yet today 25-30mpg is considered good gas mileage- I wouldn't mind the sticker price as much if the features that are important improved along with it..

I'm a big fan of Ford these days, great choice!
