Starting at the beginning, Ford had a standout product that will never be forgotten. The Ford Model T. The Model T was revolutionary is many ways. It was significantly less expensive than competitive vehicles, it was produced in mass numbers, and it quickly became the best selling vehicle of its time. The Model T was basic but reliable transportation and stood the test of time.
The Ford Mustang was and still is an iconic pony car. The Mustang is still in production today and will likely continue to be in production decades from now. The Mustang offered high performance and a fun to drive experience while keeping a tight focus on low cost motoring.
The Ford F150 Truck is the company's perennial best seller. The F150 outsells competitors truck and continues to lead the U.S. each year in sales figures. The Ford F150 has advanced throughout each new generation and is quite possibly the most important vehicle that the company offers today.
The Ford Explorer. The Explorer is probably not one of the best SUVs ever, but it certainly marked the begging of small scale SUVs. The Explorer was a tremendous success for the company. Other automakers noted the success of the Explorer and quickly produced competitive vehicles in the same class.
The Ford Taurus was a best selling mid-size sedan when it was introduced. This product gave Ford a competitive family vehicle which allowed them to directly compete with foreign competitors. The Taurus remained the top selling family sedan for many years before being out-gunned by competitors such as the Toyota Camry and the Honda Accord.
The Ford Fusion has quickly become one of the best selling vehicles for Ford right now. This model offers distinctly European styling and driving dynamics and has won numerous awards. The Fusion marks a turning point for the company as they now focus on driving dynamics and competing with European rivals.
The Ford Fusion Hybrid is potentially one of the best hybrid vehicles offered by any company. This stellar vehicles achieves remarkable fuel economy at a budget friendly price and has been awarded on numerous occasions for its outstanding engineering.
The Ford Focus represents the company's first real attempt to compete directly with the likes of the Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla. Ford successfully developed a competitive product at a low price point and sales have shown that the vehicle is a true success. The Focus will be redesigned for 2012 and promises to be better than the competition.
The Ford Focus BEV or battery electric vehicle will be available next year, but is already making headlines. Featured on the Jay Leno show, the Focus BEV forgoes the gasoline powered engine in favor of batteries and electric motors. This vehicle uses no gasoline and is simply plugged in for a recharge. This marks the company's first foray into electric vehicles and will be an important product as Ford move into the future.
Finally we come to the Ford Crown Victoria. The Crown Vic is known across this country as the police car. It is an iconic vehicle and the trademark headlights can be spotted by many from miles away. The Crown Vic is being replaced by other vehicles for police duty, but has been in use by many departments for well over a decade.
So there it is. The Top Ten most important cars that the Ford Motor Company has ever produced. Each vehicle above is significant to the company in many ways. Some of the vehicles mark the beginning of a new time, others bring back memories of yesterday but all are significant in their own ways.
