Forehead Frownlines

Erica Hidvegi

Deep etched

Years of misery, pain and sorrow

A face that wears the troubled times

Like a noose around a prisoner's neck

The banter of torment the furrows deepen

Across the frontal lobe of cognitive dissonance

A smile forced but by no means real

As the sun sets slowly in the autumn skies

A grown man with responsibility, cries.

His hands shake with the knowing he has power

An unrewarded feeling that can only devour

The living desperation found in the lines

Around the eyes, mouth, nose, and lips

Those that run across the forehead, tips

The scale in this mans favor to live
