In unrelated music news, Nona Beamer, a noted authority on Hawaiian culture and matriarch of the musical group Beamer passed away recently. (Source: Associated Press).
Beamer, a songwriter, performer, hula teacher, and author, died peacefully at her home on Maui, according to Mark Nelson, administrator of Aloha Music Camp, which Beamer founded and operated with her son, Keola, a Grammy-nominated slack-key guitar-artist. Nelson said he and Keola were on tour, the remainder of which has been canceled. Ailing in recent years, Beamer remained active and last performed with her family at the music camp in February, stated the AP. Survivors include sons Keola, Kapono, and Kaliko Beamer-Trapp, daughter Maile Beamer-Loo, and a grandson.
In other music news, a longtime member of Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band, Danny Federici passed away last month. Springsteen's website stated that Federici died at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York at the age of 58. He had battled melanoma for three years, according to legacy.com.
In unrelated event news, Adam Davis has won a nationwide staff excellence award. Davis, the American Lung Association of California's director of Lung Disease Programs for Northern California, was recently honored for program development at the National Conference in Dallas. He was recognized for "Kickin' Asthma," an asthma treatment program for middle and high school students that has been implemented on a large scale in Oakland, CA, among other accomplishments.

In unrelated health news, an American Cancer Society/Relay for Life volunteer in Fort Worth, TX was recently diagnosed with a 19-centimeter long ovarian cyst/tumor that is cancerous.
In other health news, Rosalie Ritz, a premier courtroom artist who for four decades chronicled dozens of high-drama trials, including those of Charles Manson, Patty Hearst, and O.J. Simpson, recently passed away at 84 after a two-year battle with lung cancer. The AP brought her to Los Angeles for the trial of Robert F. Kennedy's assasin, Sirhan Sirhan in 1968 and she returned to the city for other trials, according to her obituary.
