Forever Friends

Musing on Friendship 6

Louisa Burgess
You are my Forever Friend
we met in 2nd grade
in 4th we pricked our fingers
we are blood sisters forever
and forever more

You are my Forever Friend
in junior high I lent you
my lipstick and my homework
you gave me a necklace
with half a heart you have the other

I am your Forever Friend
I had a crush on the boy who
asked you to the junior prom
you said no and went with
my brother instead

I am your Forever Friend
that night before you went away
to college I was sad and you promised
to stay friends no matter what
we did for a long time

You are my Forever Friends
and I am yours
where did we go on life's journey
separately we didn't know
just how long forever is

So fortunate to have a friend this long. I see you hold it special and dear to you, as it should be. Many don't have the pleasures of having a friendship as this. Well done, and now I can see why the friendship is so dear and uplifting to you. Great job on this one!

PS: Have you ever reconnected? That would make an interesting subject for a poem!

I wish I still had friends from elementary school. We moved a lot then I moved a lot and never did keep in touch. :-(
