Forget Bush and Cheney. Let's Impeach Joe Lieberman

Lieberman Backs McCain for President

Robert Vinciguerra
Joe Lieberman, who has more in common with neoconservatives than with moderate progressives, has officially openly endorsed Arizona Senator John McCain, a Republican, for President.

It's hard to tell what's the most shocking aspect of this situation. Lieberman, a lifelong democrat was his party's Vice Presidential nominee in 2000, where he and Al Gore came less than 400 votes shy of winning the White House. Clearly, choosing Lieberman was among Mr. Gore's biggest mistakes that year.

In 2004 the conservative democrat ran for President all on his own, challenging Howard Dean, John Edwards, and the eventual nominee, John Kerry. Unlike with the previous election, Lieberman's views became so conservative that many often joked that he was the only Republican on the stage during the debates. After skipping Iowa, followed getting thoroughly trounced in New Hampshire, Lieberman tucked his tail between his legs and left the national stage.

Over the next two years, the Connecticut Senator leaned farther and farther to the right. He took stands against First Amendment rights were ruled as being unconstitutional, and supported an ill-conceived, unpopular, and flatly unnecessary war in Iraq.

The years of supporting Republican agendas in Congress led to a backlash that he never predicted, a strong primary challenge in 2006 for his reelection. The challenger, Ned Lamont, a successful businessman, defeated him in the Democratic primary.

One might think that a man of moral fiber would admit defeat; but not old Joe. He swiftly filed as a third party candidate, and invented a party. The name of his new party: "Connecticut for Lieberman." How original.

Confusion among Democratic leaders about which candidate to back, coupled with a criminally corrupt Republican candidate that the White House wouldn't even get behind, led to Lieberman's win in the general election, and on to six more years in the Senate - a truly sad outcome for America, but a victory for a pitiful unprincipled man.

Didn't Lieberman vow to support a Democratic President in 2008?

Why yes, yes he did. But what are vows to those like Lieberman? He has proven that he cannot accept the outcome of a fair election under the rules of his own party, and in his own state. It is of absolutely no astonishment whatsoever that Lieberman is unable to keep his own word.

In a statement released on his website, NedLamont.com, Mr. Lamont released this statement:

"During our debate last year, Senator Lieberman intoned that he wanted to, 'Elect a Democratic President in 2008,' and that my election would 'frustrate and defeat our hope of doing that.' With his endorsement of John McCain today, it is now clear that Joe Lieberman is the one working to defeat our hopes."

Mr. Lamont, I think the words that you are looking for are "I told ya so!"

Wait a minute! Isn't there another Democratic Senator from Connecticut running for President?

Why yes, yes there is. Chris Dodd, the real Democratic Senator from Connecticut, and evidently the only one, has been desperately campaigning since early in the cycle, and is making virtually no ground. It would be surprising that Lieberman didn't come to his colleague's aid, if it were not for the fact that he is so transparently petty.

In 2006, unlike some of Lieberman's Democratic friends, including the powerful Democratic Leadership Council (DLC), Chris Dodd correctly supported the rightful democratic nominee for the Connecticut Senate seat. Old blowhard Joe has been harboring a grudge ever since, not that he is man enough to admit it.

"This honestly doesn't have anything to do with last year," said Lieberman in a telephone conference call with reporters. "I think Chris and I are over that." Sure it, Joe. Too bad nobody could tell if you had your fingers crossed when you said it.

As for the DLC, they are finding themselves in remorse over their past sins. "I am very saddened by Senator Lieberman's choice, and profoundly disagree with it, said DLC founder and CEO in a statement. "We need to elect a Democratic president in 2008." Ya think?

What we really need to do is Impeach Joe Lieberman!

Sure, Lieberman has to face reelection, but that's not until 2012, and voters have short memories. The writing is on the wall. The Democrats are going to pick up a few Senate seats in 2008, at which point it's safe for Lieberman to officially turncoat and caucus with the GOP.

There is no time to wait for the next election. Let's just impeach Lieberman now. It may not be easier, but it's faster.

Lieberman willfully, and with intent, deceived Americans to make us believe he was a progressive, and even a Democrat. He purposely misled voters into believing that he wanted, or would even support, and Democratic Presidential Nominee in 2008. He's a lying liar, and Americans shouldn't stand for it.

I already have the perfect impeachment campaign slogan: "You can't spell Lieberman without "LIE!" What do ya thing?

The Duelfer report found no credible WMD development activity for nukes after 1991, and no biological warfare capacity after 1995. There simply weren't any militarily significant weapons there. Wishing doesn't make it so, Joe.

OK I understand this story is from 2007 but when i saw it i had to have a look i hadn't considered the possibility of IMPEACHING "Mr." (LIE)berman .... It's December 2009 and I am energized by Sen. Frankens "holding Joe to to the rules of Senate ... I think this is one of the "few" times Joe has actually gotten a taste of how "unpleasant" it could become to "report" for duty (not that the HAWK ever served) anyway I digress I'll be researching the Impeachment Process in CT. Lieberman should be fired. He mascaraded as a Democrat and was elected by people opposed to republican values. Now that he is in office, he has become the trojan horse of the republicans. This is an ourage. We hired him to uphold our Democratic values.
