Forget Me Not

The sun shined down on her feet. The rest of her was tucked beneath an umbrella. She was sitting with her friends at the pool enjoying an almost perfect day. That is when her friend ran up. They had all been invited to an exclusive party. Wow! This vacation just kept getting better and better! It was almost too good to be true. Tabitha hadn't been on a vacation in years. She almost passed on this one, but her friends begged her to come with.

It was a trip to Los Angeles. She had never been there before, but she had heard it was a wonderful place. The group of the flew out there for a long weekend of relaxation and partying. So far, the trip had exceeded her expectations. The flight had been uneventful. The hotel was in a great location. They had been out and about to see the sights and had a blast at the clubs. Now they had this to look forward to: An exclusive party at one of the hottest clubs.

Tabitha wasn't sure how her friend had pulled it off. However, it didn't surprise her that he did. If anyone could get them into the celebration of the year, it was him. Everyone was so excited. It was surreal to think they would actually be going. The girls immediately panicked about having nothing to wear, and the guys began to wonder what hot celebrities may be in attendance.

The group was aflutter with excitement and nervousness as the day went on. The girls ran out and did some last minute shopping. Most of them really didn't buy anything, but they did get their make up done at a MAC counter.

When they returned back to the hotel, they guys had not even begun to get ready. They were still sitting poolside with their beers. They laughed at the girls for starting so early, but really they were also nervous about going to a Hollywood party.

Pretty soon everyone was getting ready. People were pulling their best outfits out of their garments bags. She donned a blood read and black dress with spaghetti straps and strappy black platform sandals. Her hair was long a beautiful. Her make up was the best it could be. Eventually the group made it out the door.

Tabitha was bringing up the rear of the group. That was her job. She made sure no was lost or left behind. When they reached the club, her friend went to the door. He gave his name and the number of guests and the bouncer let him in. She watched as each of her friends walked through the door. Finally it was her turn, but the bouncers stopped her. Maybe they didn't think she looked 21. Maybe her friend had undercounted the number of guests. She looked up at the man who had stopped her, and he was just shaking his head. "I'm sorry. You can't go in," he said.

She was very confused. Tabitha was dressed just as nice as everyone else. Why couldn't she go in? The bouncer really did look sorry. "The hosts have very specific criteria about who gets into this and I'm afraid you're just not thin or pretty enough. I can get your friends if you'd like."

She looked into the club, and she saw her friends already having fun. None of them even realized that she wasn't there. No one saw that she was still standing at the door. She knew how much this party meant to them, and she didn't want to ruin their fun. "No thanks," she replied. "Let them stay." She turned around and started to head back to the curb. She would just catch a cab back.

Maybe they would notice she was missing and text her, but no new messages came in. She sat in the hotel room, in her pretty dress and shoes just looking at her cell phone.
