Forget the Oscars: 2008 Razzie Nominations Announced!

"Disaster Movie" Leads Among Nominees for the Worst in Film

If the pompous, self-congratulations of Oscar season is more than you can bear, never fear, the Razzies are here! If you ever left a movie disappointed that it was a waste of your time, the Razzies are for you.

The 2008 Razzie Award nominations have been announced, celebrating the worst in movies, acting, and filmmaking. The aptly named "Disaster Movie" led all films with six nominations, including worst picture, worst director and worst screenplay. Users on the Internet Movie Database already rank it was the #2 Worst Film of All Time. Among the films that garnered five Razzie nominations were the spoof "Meet the Spartans," Mike Myers' truly awful "The Love Guru," and Paris Hilton's ego-fest "The Hottie and the Nottie."

While most of the nominees are box-office flops and C-list celebrities, many big budget hits and some of Hollywood's A-list earned nods. "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" may have been one of the year's biggest movies, but that didn't stop the Razzies from giving it a nomination for Worst Sequel. Oscar nominees Al Pacino, Robert DeNiro, Eddie Murphy, Kate Hudson, and M. Night Shyamalan all managed nominations for their poor work this year.

Author John Wilson founded the Golden Raspberry Award Foundation nearly thirty years ago to recognize the truly poor effort put into film. The 2008 Razzies will be awarded the night before the Oscars, February 21, 2009. In January and February, Encore, the cable movie network, will also hold a "Razzie" film festival on the channel, showcasing past Razzie nominees such as "Encino Man," "Striptease," "Shanghai Surprise," and "Battlefield Earth."

I can't imagine Mark Wahlberg on anyone's "worst list" for anything! But Pierce Brosnan as worst in Mama Mia? Now that I can totally agree with. Thanks - I didn't even know about such a thing as a "razzie".
