Forgotten Orphans

Update on Ash

JTA Knowles
The last time I wrote about the little dark gray kitten with a broken pelvis I found in the road near my home was in July 2008. He is now everything and more than I ever expected him to be. I moved to an area that is surrounded by trees at the beginning of this year and Ash has become Mr. Outdoorsman. He thrives in the woods and acts as if he is the king of all the living creatures including us and the opossums and raccoons. He is fat, fluffy, with sparkling eyes, and the only living being that he defers to is his big wife Suki, which means Moon in Japanese. My son brought her home when Ash was about 7 months old and they've been stuck like glue to each other ever since. She is fat, fluffy, and full of attitude and youthfulness. She also could be mistaken as a raccoon herself due to her coloring and markings. They have both been neutered and spayed, and enjoy a full and healthy life. There have been other additions as well; Batista, who is a huge sand colored male cat, came back here to live. He was born here, but chose to live in the woods for the last three years until I moved in with my kitty community. He is now a neutered and very loving cat, although he gets in a lot of trouble with the lady kitties still. Ash thought he was going to be king of our little kitty community, but Batista has burst his bubble and he is still not happy about it, but still comes home and interacts with the family when he chooses to be.

Sadly, my big Great Pyrenees, Angel, which Ash enjoyed many afternoon naps with, passed away this summer due to a snake bite while she was adventuring out near the creek. I let her outside and forgot to bring her in, so she and her little sister, Misty, (Our Chihuahua), went adventuring. At least she had a good time before the horrible mishap. She did have some medical problems that made many things difficult for her, so she doesn't have to deal with those things and suffer anymore, and for that I'm grateful. But Ash is going to be around for a long, long, time, I think.
