Former DOJ Lawyer Claims Race Related Corruption Behind Dropped New Black Panther Voter Intimidation Case
Today, Adams testified before the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights in regards to the explosive allegations.
J. Christian Adams quit his job at the DOJ in protest over the alleged corruption. Adamsis an election lawyer and served in the Voting Rights Section at the U.S. Department of Justice; in that capacity he was assigned to the NBPP voter intimidation case.
Background of the Voter Intimidation Case against the New Black Panthers
J. Christian Adams wrote on Pajamas Media (PJM): "On Election Day 2008, armed men wearing the uniforms and jackboots of the New Black Panther Party were posted in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, at the entrance to a polling site. They brandished a weapon and intimidated voters. After the election, the Civil Rights Division at the U.S. Department of Justice brought a voter intimidation case against the New Black Panther Party and these armed thugs. I, and other Justice lawyers, obtained an entry of default after the defendants ignored the case against them."
The Bush Justice Department originally brought the case against the three members of the NBPP, accusing them in a civil complaint of violating the Voter Rights Act.
After the election, the Obama administration won a default judgment against the NBPP, but inexplicably dropped the case against them. They did, however, get one of the members, Shamir Shabazz, to promise not to carry a "deadly weapon" near a polling place until 2012.
Shabazz was carrying a billy-club while he and other members of the NBPP intimidated voters at the PA polling place.
Timeline of the Voter Intimidation Case
Ø 11/04/2008: NBPP members charged with violating the Voter Rights Act
Ø 01/07/2009: DOJ files lawsuit against NBPP
Ø 04/20/2009: Court enters default judgment against NBPP members
Ø 05/15/2009: Obama administration dismisses charges against NBPP
Why did the Obama Administration Drop the Case against the New Black Panther Party?
Adams tells Megyn Kelly of Fox News that a DOJ mandate is, "No voter intimidation case is going to be prosecuted if the victim is white and the defendant is black." And the decision to drop the case against the NBPP is corrupt.
J. Christian Adams is not alone, a PJM article released today states former DOJ employees are scheduled to come forward to corroborate Adams' statements about the DOJ.
Additionally, Bartle Bull a high profile eyewitness and victim to the voter intimidation perpetrated by the NBPP testified before the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights.
Bartle Bull is an admitted lifelong liberal, civil rights attorney and former campaign manager for Robert F. Kennedy. He has also worked with Jimmy Carter, received an award by the late Senator Edward Kennedy for his work as a civil rights attorney, which included working in the south defending the rights of black voters in the early 1960s.
Mr. Bull tells Fox News that he was a poll watcher for the presidential election in 2008 when he was told by armed New Black Panther member Shamir Shabazz, "Now you will see what it means to be ruled by a black man, cracker."
Bartle Bull describes the scene at his appearance before the Commission on Civil Rights, "Seven of these uniformed black panthers sat immediately behind me during my testimony and when I was called on to identify them I had to stand up and point to King Shamir Shabazz, the guy with the billy-club, and he took my photograph trying to intimidate me inside the hearing room and that's an incredible outrage."
Eric Holder's DOJ Didn't Read Justice Department Memorandums Supporting the Case
Reminiscent to the admission by Obama administration top brass, Eric Holder and Janet Napolitano's stunning admission that they did not read the Arizona immigration law before excoriating it, the leadership in the DOJ did not read the merits of the case against the NBPP before dropping it.
J. Christian Adams writes in a Washington Times article, "Most corrupt of all, the lawyers who ordered the dismissal - Loretta King, the Obama-appointed acting head of the Civil Rights Division, and Steve Rosenbaum - did not even read the internal Justice Department memorandums supporting the case and investigation."
During Adams' appearance today at the US Commission on Civil Rights he testified that he witnessed a scene in which his boss Christopher Coates the chief of the Voting Section becomes outraged with senior Justice official Steve Rosenbaum.
Adams testified that Mr. Rosenbaum told Mr. Coats that he (Rosenbaum) did not read the memos (before arguing against the case). Christopher Coates then, according to Adams' testimony, stated to Mr. Rosenbaum "that's BS, that's BS" and threw the memo at Steve Rosenbaum.
The Commission on Civil Rights sent a subpoena to the DOJ for Mr. Coates' testimony; Eric Holder is preventing his appearance as well as the appearance of other Justice attorneys.
Christopher Coates was instrumental in bringing the case against the New Black Panther Party and did not support the dismissal of the case against them. Mr. Coates was subsequently demoted by the Justice Dept. and transferred to South Carolina.
Adams writes in PJM that Christopher Coates is a former ACLU lawyer and voting rights giant and that he brought cases to stop racial discrimination as far back as 1976. Adams further writes that, "Because he (Coates) believed in race-neutral enforcement of the civil rights laws, his powers as voting section chief were slowly sucked away by the Holder Justice Department.
The US Commission on Civil Rights continues the investigation into why the DOJ dropped the voter intimidation cased against the New Black Panther Party and if racial corruption was and is the motive behind the Justice department's decision.

Don't even get me started!
First I've heard of. To think, they have to make deals like the one with Shamir Shabazz. Great report! Thanks for the news.
it's not often mentioned but there was also a great deal of voter intimidation in the Democratic Primary contest between Hillary C. and Obama--especially at the caucuses... of course, that's swept under the rug in the interest of "party unity" otherwise known as tacit approval of political corruption.
Tony, you're a good American - and a good writer too.
..uh patricia did you read the statements? "you will know how it is to be ruled by a black man, cracker" as they wielded a billyclub (classified as deadly weapon)Patricia do you even know who the NBPP is? Is your love of Obama and your ideology completely trumping your common sense & patriotism...
Personally, I live in Philly and if these Black Panther guys had been at my polling place, I wouldn't even have given them a second glance. They weren't there to intimidate, they were there to make sure there was no trouble as the polling place was in a bad neighborhood. They were really there to PROTECT the voters, not intimidate. And how could they intimidate voters? Scared voters would suddenly change their votes because scary guys were outside? How ridiculous. They probably could have looked friendlier, tho, as the rich white people from the nearby gentrified neighborhoods forced to go there scare easily!
You're a very interesting person, Tony! I really like how you support the US! Thank you!
Awesome article, Tony! You're on fire! :)
I get lost in all this....
