Former NBA player and Detroit native gives back

Rodney Heard's NBA career was brief, playing just a few games for the Houston Rockets in 1988, but his influence on Detroit basketball is growing. Heard played high school ball in Michigan, leading the state and scoring 38 points per game. His college career included one season at Kansas State and a transfer to Highland Park Community College. While his playing career fizzled after that, through hard work he was able to land a job scouting for the Atlanta Hawks and, presently, the New York Knicks.

Today, Heard hosts a basketball camp in Detroit where he does his best to give back to the city. He uses his success as a way to teach Detroit kids that anything is possible with hard work and determination. His view of Detroit is one of community, and it's his belief that it takes that entire community to raise a child.
