Former NY Giants WR Mark Ingram Gets 2 More Years in Jail

Ingram Gets 2 Years for Disobeying Judge

Former New York Giants wide receiver Mark Ingram has made numerous bad decisions since leaving the National Football League. His last one will cost him an additional two years in prison.

The New York Daily News and other sources in the New York City area have confirmed that Mark Ingram received two additional years in prison for jumping bail in order to watch his son, Alabama football star Mark Ingram Jr., play football in December. The two years were added onto an already seven-year prison sentence for "money laundering and bank fraud" (New York Daily News).

The elder Ingram admitted what he did was unacceptable, telling the judge "What I did was absolutely wrong. So many people with 'celebrity status' think they are above the law. I'm here to say that is not the case here. I know with bad decisions come consequences and I'm here to accept those consequences."

The judge was not completely heartless, telling Ingram "I do this with a heavy heart. It tears my heart out. It's too bad it had to end this way. But disobeying court orders from a judge is a very serious thing. If this was the first time you were here, I'd sympathize with your situation, but it's not."

Regardless of whether you believe Ingram should have been able to watch his son or not, the last sentence spoken by the judge tells the story. The latest misstep by Ingram was just one of a handful that landed the New York Giants Super Bowl champion behind bars for what will be over a decade of total time. It is clear that, for whatever reason, the message just has gotten through to the former NFL wide receiver. Hopefully this will be the last time Ingram makes the news for such a story.
