Former Power Ranger to Fight in UFC

First Celebrity to Enter the UFC?

Former Mighty Morphing Power Rangers actor Jason David Frank announced that he's planning to become a UFC fighter. This comes off as shock to older power ranger fans who best remember Frank as Tommy the Green Ranger from the original Power Ranger series that first came out in 1993. Everyone already knows that Frank has superb skills in fighting, but can he really survive at the UFC level? Personally, I think so and not because he's a genuinely nice guy, but because he's an expert with martial arts. Believe it not he was actually inducted into the very well-known World Karate Union Hall of Fame back in 2003. Becoming a UFC fighter has been a long-term goal for the 36 year old Frank and on August 21st, 2009, he announced to his fans that he signed a contract with SuckerPunch Entertainment. SuckerPunch Entertainment happens to be the most popular sports marketing group in MMA.

Even though Jason David Frank is not doing this to amplify his career, it is important to note that a remastered version of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers will be airing early 2010. The show might actually get more attention from fans due to Frank entering the UFC. I am not sure if he actually is the first celebrity to become an MMA fighter, but if it is true, it should be well known news by now. Frank played the popular "Tommy Oliver" character in the show for many seasons and was also best known for playing the green and white ranger for the original series. After the series became Power Rangers Zeo, Tommy played the red ranger for the first time. The red ranger was actually played by Austin St. John, but decided to part ways from the show after more than one season.

I honestly can't wait to see Jason in an MMA fight and coincidentally we have the same name! Anyway, I have seen his Muay Thai videos on youtube, but there are only a few of them. There is one video however where he is practicing some of his skills on former baseball player Jose Canseco who has had his fair share of fights as well. I only hope that Jason succeeds in his goal to become an excellent fighter.
