Former Professional Wrestler Gertrude "Luna" Vachon Found Dead
Luna Vachon was Found Dead at Her Mother's House Early Morning, August 27th, 2010
Luna was found dead on Friday August 27th of 2010 in her mother's house where she was residing, after the unfortunate fire that burned her own house down earlier in the month. The cause of death is still unknown at this time. Luna was always passionate about wrestling, she used to play in the rings as a child and was taught at an early age by other professional WWE stars of the time.
Luna made her face known for her sneer and her half shaved head. This intrigued a lot of fans because it was seen as an intimidating look for many people, including male wrestlers. You could call her the first Chyna of professional wrestling for her strong upper body strength and passion inside of the ring.
Wikipedia stated that:
"In the early nineties she took over management of The Blackhearts, a masked tag team coming out of Stu Hart's Stampede Wrestling. The team consisted of Tom Nash-a childhood friend of Luna and her then-husband-and David Heath, her future husband, under the names "Apocalypse" and "Destruction", respectively. Luna worked with them in Joel Goodhart's Tri-State Wrestling, in Herb Abrams' Universal Wrestling Federation, and finally Giant Baba's All-Japan, where the team split up."
Luna was survived by her two sons Joshua and Van, from her first marriage to Dan Hurd. She was married on three separate occasions, and was divorced in all.
An interesting fact, Luna's godfather was the ever towering Andre The Giant, another legacy of wrestlers attached to her from her past.
Although her wrestling career was over, and her children were grown, we will always remember Gertrude Vachon as something more, something intimidating, and sometimes something lethal. She was a mother, a daughter, and most of all, she was Luna Vachon: The path layer for tough women to join the sport of professional wrestling.
