Former U.N Weapons Inspector Scott Ritter Accused in Poconos Sex Sting Operation

A Previous Conviction was Expunged from Ritter's Record, According to CNN

If you were of the opinion that former United Nations weapons inspector Scott Ritter was a wanker, you'd be right. The widely known self-styled pundit was arrested in a Poconos sex-string operation. Ritter thought he was talking to a 15 year old girl instead of a vice squad cop, and didn't know police were watching as he masturbated before a web cam and talked about sexual activity with the cop.

Before and after the start of the Iraq War, Ritter rarely missed an occasion to hurl himself into the spotlight and the national debate as he first criticized former President Clinton for not being tough enough on Iraq, and then later attacked the Bush administration for being too tough.

The double game Ritter played was not only in the political sphere; Ritter also seemed to have a double private life. Private no more, Ritter used the name "Demarm4fun" on an internet chat room as he engaged "Emily" who turned out to be officer Ryan Venneman of Barrett Township, Pa., not far from Mount Pocono and Stroudsburg.

The incident which began the vice investigation occurred in February of 2009,but Ritter had a previous arrest in a similar sex sting operationin which he pled guilty to a misdemeanor for an internet sexual conversation with a purported 16 year old girl who was also a police officer.

In that case, the former U.N weapons inspector was reported to have arranged a meeting with the "girl" at a Burger King in Colonie, New York. According to the CNN story, Ritter promised to masturbate for the "girl," presumably outside the Burger King.

A previous incident, where police allegedly investigated Ritter's communication with a 14 year old girl, was inconclusive. By pleading to the incident with the purported 16 year old several years ago, Ritter is reported to have had his record expunged.

In this most recent incident, the Pocono Record has published the criminal complaint filed by the Barrett Township police officer. Ritter seems to have been preparing for a legal defense in this latest incident when he turned off his web cam at one point when the "girl" informed him of being age 15. Within the PDF file copy of the criminal complaint published by the Pocono Record newspaper, the Barrett Township police officer posing as 15 year old "Emily" says:

"He said he didn't realize I was 15 years old and turned off his web camera. He stated he didn't want to get in trouble."

Apparently, Ritter wasn't able to sustain such high moral resolve because, in the next moment, he asked the investigator "you want to see it finish?" and turned on his web cam again. Upon request, Ritter then provided his cell phone number, which the police officer then called, and the officer informed Ritter he was a cop.

Ritter was freed on $25,000 bail in Monroe County Pennsylvania Common Pleas Court and has waived his right to a preliminary hearing.

Someone should start a stupid criminal pervert show. Gross. This would be the kind of familiarity that breeds contempt. Good article, though.

But why bother? The Iraq war is behind. This time it could be about Iran. Ritter is the only voice in the Western world arguing that Iran is not trying to acquire nuclear weapons. The talk from the previous smear campaign seems to have faded away as he did manage to get on to cable news couple times, but he was put down again. It does seem like a cycle and no one will listen to him again. The only thing missing is a war on Iran...

The affidavit says that Ritter started the conversation with the girl and then for some reason showed his face on camera. The video apparently was not recorded and the officer had to recognize Ritter from the photos he saw later. It is also not clear why he gave his full name and location. Is it so that he would not be confused with other Scott or Bill Ritters? Scott Ritter seem to act very fullish for an intelligence agent, that had been previously caught in a very similar sting. Someone seems to have created a very easy case for the local police office that had only few such cases, one of which happens to be Scott Ritter. In conspirators' defense, they did not try to totally destroy Ritter, even though they could. He may not get any time at all. Yet, his reputation is badly damaged already. The smear campaign could have failed, and then no one would have heard about it. But it has succeeded and it is all over the news.
