Fort DeSoto park is located in Pinellas County Florida, and offers just about everything you could dream of. This huge park is divided into several family fun packed areas, where you are sure to find something for everyone to enjoy. From the beaches, to the natural trails, this historical packed park should be on your "places to see" list.

Fort DeSoto offers 2 beautiful white sandy beaches, with crystal clear waters. With the panoramic scenic views it is difficult to decide where to start. If you enjoy shelling, then you are going to love these beaches. With multiple sandbars, it's very common to find several sand dollars along you walk, along with brightly colored shells of all shapes, and sizes. They have several designated swimming areas, and the warm waters off the Gulf of Mexico is hard to resist. Just a short distance from the sandy shore line, you will find beautiful trees, for those who can't take the sun.

If your more into fishing, then you might want to try out one of the 2 piers the park has to offer. The piers offer benches, as well as areas to clean your catch, or just wash your hands off. Located at the entrance to each of the piers you will find clean restrooms, and just like the 2 piers, these are opened 24 hours a day. On the pier during the day, you can buy bait, at the bait shacks, or at night you can find bait along with soda, snacks, and tackle in vending machines also located on the pier. Never to crowed, and always a breeze makes these piers the best spots to fish.

For a little more nature, try walking one of the nature trails. Here you will have no trouble relaxing, as you find several bench swings for the family to enjoy. Adding to the beauty you will find several Indian burial mounds. Do be surprised if you spot a raccoon or two, as the park has plenty. Remember they are beautiful. but look, don't touch.

Are you a big history buff? Then don't pass up the Fort. The Fort is an old military outpost constructed during the Spanish American War. From old guns to ammunition, this Fort makes everyone love history, even the kids. Don't forget to bring a camera, there is some great spots for family photo's. Beside the Fort is an area that has brick foundations, and curvaceous sidewalks, that often goes unnoticed. If you take the time to walk this path, you can see where the (no long gone) homes, hospitals, morgues, and more used to be. There is also photo's and descriptions telling you what they were, and how much they cost. It is amazing. You wouldn't believe the size of the house you could get for next to nothing back then.

This is just a few of the wonderful activities you can enjoy at Fort DeSoto. There truly isn't time to write about everything you can see or do there. With jogging trails, bike trails, dog parks, camp grounds, gift shops, snack bars, play grounds, and so much more. You should definitely try to visit this park.
