Fort Hood Shootings - Still Under Investigation

Today the Fort Hood Military Instillation was the location of twelve soldier deaths, and thirty injuries. The media is currently speculating as to what has happened. No ones truly knows yet exactly what happened. You may be wondering what is really going on with the details behind those actions taken by the soldiers responsible for the shootings.

President Obama addressed the nation respectfully to those who soldiers that were killed and injured in the shooting. President Obama was careful not to speculate on the motives of the attack, unlike the news stations.

The news is currently reporting that one shooter was killed, and two suspects were apprehended. All of the people detained were all U. S. Soldiers.

This causes me to question what was going on with those soldiers ?

The mobilization station is where the dental, medical, and other needs are taken care of immediately before deployment. This readiness center is were all soldiers that are being deployed have to process through. The location of the shooting is saying something, although the message is not yet clear. The motive is not yet confirmed.

The news reports have not discussed how many deployments these soldiers have been through, the mental state of the soldiers, or any family problems. Why an attack there, in that location?

According to MSNBC one of the soldiers has a Muslim surname, and is the alleged gunman Malik Nadal Hasan. It is not clear yet if he is an American born person, has a family in the states, or any details about his life. The media is saying this could possibly be a terrorist attack. Hasan is reported by the media to be an Army Major with several years of experience. It is not clear as to what his position is within the Army. The details of his career have not yet been disclosed.

The Military has not yet completed their investigation, the complete Fort Hood base is currently on lock down. This is a 209 acre base with schools, education centers, training facilities, hospital, and neighborhoods.

The media is under the assumption that the nation is at peace. It a sense it is, however many soldiers deploy for several months to a year, come home for a year or so and then return over seas. The idea of war is not a far off idea for them, it is tangible and real.

Deployment is America is sometimes the reality of war in the midst of people who have never experienced any type of violence, attack, or threat of personal security. Many civilians can not wrap their mind around the concept of how much sacrifice is involved with families when the soldiers deploy.

Military families may have friends and co workers who are injured. They have fought for their country and returned to a country that seems to go on, as they fight to recover from their wounds both internal and external. Soldiers that deploy often often experience family problems, divorce, and marital strains.

Many soldiers never return from their over seas duty station alive. The Fort Hood community has a strong sense of community where people understand the realities of deployment.

At this time the media is currently not sure what is going on. They obviously do not understand the complexities of Military life. I urge you all to pray for the families of the soldiers who are killed or injured by this tragic event.

The results of the investigation may shed more light into exactly what happened. Traditionally being on post was a very safe place to be for Military members who lived on or off post. Fort Hood was a safe place to for soldiers and their families to live, reach out to and socialize with people who understood the challenges of Military life, and experience discount recreation. Retirees and active duty regularly come on post for the discount shopping privileges and for medical care as part of their active duty or retirement privileges.

I am deeply saddened by the events that have taken place on Fort Hood. As new bits of information come in about what has happened the story is slowly unfolding. Continue to support Military members, Military families, and Veterans work through this sad day in our country.
