Fort Hood, Texas, Shooter, Major Nidal Hussan is Alive and in Custody

As we receive more information on the shootings Thursday, November 5, at Fort Hood military base in Texas, we begin to see a horrific picture of the murders of 12 American citizens and the wounding of 31 more, by a professional career Army officer, 39 year old, Major Nidal Hussan.

As the evening news developed we received the surprising news that the suspect is still alive after being shot multiple times and is under military guard and being treated at a hospital, as well as the good news that a female first responder at the scene, who is believed to have been key in bringing the shooter down, is also alive and in stable condition. It was reported earlier during the confusion that she had been killed.

The female first responder has not been identified at this time, as well as no release on the names of any of the other victims.

Sorting through the rumors and uncertainty of exactly what did occur on Thursday, November 5^th, there is only one thing that is absolutely clear. The heroic men and women of the United States Army were ruthlessly slaughtered by a disturbed individual wielding automatic weapons. Whether it was terrorist sponsored is still unclear. At this time base officials, including Lt. General Bob Con , are stating that interviews are being conducted and that the investigation into the background of Major Nidal Hussan is ongoing.

Retired Col. Terry Lee, who said he had worked with Hasan, told newscasters Hasan was upset about his upcoming deployment to Afghanistan. Lee said Hasan had hoped Obama would pull troops out of Afghanistan and Iraq and got into frequent arguments with others in the military who supported the wars.

Keith Olberman on MSNBC reported online during his television show at 11:00 that the shooter came to the attention of FBI investigators because of some internet postings about suicide bombers. Major Hasan had a degree in combat psychiatry and was scheduled to go overseas to Afghanistan. His speciality was dealing with mental health and post traumatic stress disorders and had worked at Walter Reed Medical Center with troops returning from Iraq and Afghanistan.

Fort Hood is the largest activity duty military post in the United States with about 52,000 troops stationed there as they return to from active duty overseas and prepare to deploy overseas. It is located about halfway between Austin ,Texas and Waco,Texas.
