Fort Wayne Indiana's Historic West Main Street Farmers Market Draws Many
Fort Wayne Farmer's Market Offers 31 Vendors
Fort Wayne, IN 46808
United States of America
The farmer's market is located in the parking lot of Power Components, at the Northwest corner of the Davis and Main Street intersection in Fort Wayne every Friday from 3 to 8 p.m. Everything sold at the market is either homemade or home grown. Reportedly, 31 vendors offer up goods each week. The Nebraska Neighborhood Association sponsors the market in an effort to raise funds to pay for the beautification of West Main Street project.
The market will run until October 23. Seasonal vegetables and fruits are sold along side antiques and homemade jewelery. Also offered up for sale are baked goods and Joseph Decuis restaurant will sell food such as hamburgers. Artists are also featured, including musical acts for entertainment. Made to order omelets are also served up each week. The plethora of vendors has made this one of Fort Wayne's largest farmer's markets. The Friday evening time slot is convenient for those wishing to plan weekend meals in advance.
The market has a Facebook page where it claims to be Fort Wayne's newest farmer's market. Fans and those interested in getting more information about the market can become fans of the group through Facebook.
Parking was one of the few negatives about the farmer's market. The parking lot that houses the market is located next to a dangerous curve and parking is not in abundance. We, like many others, parked in an abandoned factory across the street. This was a little dangerous due to the haphazard way others parked and the fear of picking up a nail or driving over glass en route to the Fort Wayne farmer's market.
The selection of produce was satisfactory. Everything we purchased tasted like it was locally grown. We found some beautiful fresh flowers for cheap. We picked up two gladys for only fifty cents each, and they stayed fresh for days.
The farmer's market seemed to draw a decent crowd on this Friday afternoon, when weather conditions where next to ideal, so hopefully, the event will continue to grow. However, if the market plans on growth, a better location will need to be found to account for more vendor room and better and safer parking for guests.
