UAW members thought that the talks were actually being productive over this past weekend. But at 1:40 a.m. this morning, the UAW had announced that the strike deadline would begin at 11 a.m. On edge, all the workers at the Fort Wayne assembly plant in Indiana were said to be "ready and waiting."
This is "a dangerous situation" as said on CNN.
A UAW workers wife says "It's scary for our family, but if it will save my husband's job in the future, then I guess it will be the right thing to do."
"The right decision was made to protect all of our UAW workers," says a local UAW worker.
Many workers I have spoken to say that "not many people can do this job." One worker says that he would not do his job for even $16 an hour.
It has been said that labor cost are only about 10% of what a new vehicle cost. We are asking not to judge these workers, as we are not in their shoes. These members have families that they have to support. We need to be here to support the UAW members.
At the news conference at 12:15 p.m. today televised on CNN, Ron Gettelfinger, the UAW President, said they "were very disappointed in this round of negotiations. We will be going back to the bargaining table today."
73,000 UAW workers are on strike at this time. This is a serious problem. A national disaster. How long will this strike take place? And what will this mean for our economy? Some say this will create a "ripple effect throughout the U.S."

Post a CommentGood article!! Very good points- GM cant expect the UAW members to be the only ones taking cuts/sacrifices for the co.- General Motors needs to 'give' some too & appreciate the workers they have!!
