Fortitude Releases It's First Edition - 50% of the Articles Make the Front Page

New Site Pays Authors for Front Page Featured Articles

Tony Payne
A few weeks ago I mentioned a new site for writers that was being launched in June. You can read the initial article HERE and also the answers to many questions that were raised HERE.

The new site is Fortitude, and is from the same people who own Qondio, another adsense sharing site. I was initially thinking about the international authors who ended up leaving Associated Content recently because of the change in policy, but many of us do write for different sites, since certain types of articles do better on some sites than others.

Today saw the launch of Fortitude, with it's first issue, which you can see HERE.

A number of people were concerned that this site is an unknown quantity, being a new site, and that it charges people to become a member. Equally important was the fact that only those articles which appear on the front page get paid for, and a number of people were deterred by this.

Looking at the first edition, there were (as far as I can see) only 18 articles submitted in time for the issue, and 9 of these appeared on the front page, which by my reckoning is 50%, not bad at all. The payout rates for articles that appear on the front page are between $10 and $100, so at worst these authors would have received $10 for their efforts.

The membership cost is $1.99 a month, or $23.88 a year. That can easily be recuperated by having one successful article, or referring one person, so although it does cost to join (the argument being to deter spam), it's only a token amount.

I did find out also several days ago when articles were being submitted, that you also get paid for reviewing articles. This is only $0.02 per article, so you would need to review 100 articles in a month, to pay off your membership, if that is all you are doing. Still, it's money in the bank right!

If you are interested at looking further, click HERE for the referral link.

One good thing that might interest some of you is that Fortitude accepts all types of articles, including poetry, so it's possible a good piece of poetry could make it to the front page and get a good payment.

An important point that was also made before - if you submit an article to Fortitude and it makes the front page, they retain copyright on it. However, if an article doesn't make the front page, you are free to submit it to other sites, like Associated Content.

For me it's another option to earn more money, and since I have only had 1 article qualify for an up front payment here at Associated Content, it was a worthwhile gamble to take.

I wasn't going to write about Fortitude again, but with the first issue appearing and the 50% chance of making it to the front page of that issue, I thought it might be worthwhile, plus you get a chance to see what type of material is being written and accepted. Of course the number of articles submitted is likely to increase, but if you think you are better than (or at least as good as) those authors featured today, you have something to compare against.

I submitted my first article this morning, so fingers crossed I make it to the front page tomorrow. It would be nice.

I'm glad that you're keeping us updated, and I hope you continue to do so. We'll send you in first to test the waters. Then you can let us know how it is. I've always been doubtful about websites that buy the copyright to my articles. I have an article on eHow that I've made $195.00 on, in 8 months. If I would have sold that article for $10.00, I would have been kicking myself by now.

Signed up, haven't written anything yet.

Send me a direct referral Tony. WhenI click your referral link in this article it just goes to the website without anything to indicate you would get the credit.

I am not going to gamble on this one, my time is already occupied with so many writing commitments as it is

Thanks for the info. I may be looking for another writer's site once the yahoo take over is complete. I feel that the future of less active writers like myself may be uncertain. But I'm sorry, I can't spend all day and all night writing for AC. I've got a life outside of cyberspace.

Maybe there will be a policy change after they get up and running. The articles look good, will certainly read.
