The Top 100 Companies to Work for in 2009

Michelle Radowich
Every year, in January, Fortune Magazine releases it's list of thetop 100 companies to work for and this year there are some great opportunities for those of you looking for a new career. Fortune Magazine's Top 100 Companies to Work for is always an interesting read, but this year with the economy in such a mess it is good to know who is growing stronger.

Topping the list of Fortune Magazine's list of the top 100 companies to work for is NetApp which has moved up from 14th place in Fortune Magazine's top 100 companies to work for 2008. NetApp is currently hiring and has around 55 positions to fill. Why does NetApp deserve to be number 1 on Fortune Magazine's top 100 companies to work for? Well with a 12% growth, a $3 billion turnover, great employee benefits and a forward thinking management style they do seem to fit the number 1 slot.

A rising star on Fortune Magazine's top 100 companies to work for is Stanley. This Arlington, VA based IT consulting company had a 65% growth in 2008 and now has almost 5000 employees working on their 40 odd Government contracts. As of January 13th they had 245 open jobs to fill and with telecommuting and salaries starting at $30k this is an attractive company.

Also doing well on Fortune Magazine's top 100 companies to work for is Rackspace Hosting. This internet -hosting firm, based in San Antonio, TX, had a 59% job growth in 2008 and currently has 100 jobs available. With hourly pay starting at $41k/year and salaried at $61k this is a hot potato if you are in internet business.

Another internet business doing well on Fortune Magazine's top 100 companies to work for is Google. With a 40% job growth in 2008 Google continues to expand it's operations and as always is one of the better companies to work for. They currently have 350 vacancies, but be warned, they also have 770,000 applications.

Other household names that made Fortune Magazine's top 100 companies to work for include; Cisco Systems, Zappos.com, Starbucks, CarMax, Microsoft, Men's Wearhouse, Nordstrom, Marriot International, SC Johnson & sons, Ebay, FedEx and T Mobile.

My favorite company to make Fortune Magazine's top 100 companies to work for has to be the Build-A-Bear Workshop. This company's employees rave about working for the company and that shows with 12,000 applicants for only 25 current openings.
