There are several benefits to a game board on your forum. The first, it provides something fun for your members to do when they are bored. These little games get addictive and gives members something to do. The next is that game boards increase the post count on your forum. When members play these forum games, they are usually making one or two word posts one after another. This can quickly increase the number of posts and activity on your forum, making it look busy.
Here are a few games that you can start on your forum. Keep in mind that these are just a few examples and the possibilities are endless. The best way to find new games for your members to play is to visit other forums that have game boards.
Games:
Rate that Song: You start the game by posting the name of a song. You will tell the members that the next person to respond must rate the song you just posted on a scale of one to ten and then post their own song. If they do not know the song they can just say so and still post their own song. It is fun to see what others think of the music you are listening to and this game is an easy favorite.
Twisted Wish Game: I am not very good at this game, but I think it is my favorite forum game to read through. The first person who posts makes a wish for something. The second person posts and says that the wish was granted, but it was granted in a way that is odd and unexpected. After the second person fulfills the wish they must post their own wish.
Example
Poster #1: I wish it wasn't hot outside.
Poster #2: Wish granted! A giant ice comet crashes into your house and sends your neighborhood into a deep freeze. I wish my best friend were in town.Poster #3: Wish granted! Your best friend is in town, but you had to go out of town. I wish...
Very fun game!
Chain Reaction: This is a very cute and simple game. The first person will post a word and the next person posts the first thing they thought of when they saw that word. So, every post is no more than one or two words long.
Example
Poster #1: apple
Poster #2: red
Poster #3: balloon
Poster #4: air
There is no right and wrong in this game. You simply post the first thing you thought of when you read the last word in the thread.
Two Word Build A Story: In this game everyone on the forum is building a story together over time. Half the time the sentences and stories make no sense, but that is the fun of this game. You start by telling the members that you will be writing a story together, but everyone can only post two words at one time. You then start the story by posting the first words.
Example
Poster #1: In the
Poster #2: middle of
Poster #3: the pool
The key to this game is not taking it so serious. There will be a lot of people who post things that make no sense. The fun is attempting to read parts of the story after it starts getting long. When members get bored with the two word story, start a new thread for a three word story.
These are just a three examples of many that you can do on your forum. Be creative and don't hesitate to let members post their own games. You can never have too many going at one time!
