Foundation Makeup 101: What to Consider When Applying Foundation on the Face

Flawless complexion is one of the secrets of beautiful women all over the world. And although not everyone is blessed with good genes, tons of money for surgery, and stress-free environment, there are still ways to achieve that clear and flawless skin. Do it the way celebrities do - faking it! And by faking, it means using make-ups such as concealer, foundation, and powder to hide the blemishes and unwanted spots on the face.

However, a lot of women avoid foundations for fear of appearing cakey. But knowing what you want to achieve, choosing the right color and shade that best suits your skin, and learning the proper application could help you successfully use foundations, displaying a flawless-looking skin.

It is important to know what you want to achieve in order to choose the right texture and finish. Do you want it sheer? Matte? Shimmer? Do you want to neutralize or tone down certain areas of your skin or just even out skin tone? Do you want to eliminate that red pimple or a dark spot? Recognizing what you want to get is the first step in applying that foundation on your face.

Also, learn to choose the right color. The main purpose of the foundation is to even out and bring out your natural skin tone, unlike bronzers and blush. In shopping for that perfect foundation, make sure you are under natural day light or white light when trying out the different shades. When choosing among several shades, try different ones and compare.

Avoid testing the shades or colors of foundation make-up in your hand or wrist as it will not provide you with the accurate application. Instead, apply a test make-up on your jaw line to ensure that you will get the shade that will blend well with your facial and neck skin tone. The perfect shade is the one that seems to "disappear" into your skin.

Lastly, it is best to learn the proper application techniques. Apply the foundation to freshly moisturized skin for a perfect base. Use a cosmetic sponge and apply in dots and blend toward the neck to avoid the mask-like effect. To prevent "tidemarks" check your nose, jaw line, forehead and chin lines.

Make-up can really do wonders. Just follow these steps for a more beautiful you!
