Foundation primers are harder to find in drug stores and grocery stores. Drug store brands are slowly coming out with formulations that are affordable, like Rimmell. Good quality face primers are easier to find at a local department store make up counter or online. These formulas make work a bit better than no foundation at all.
DIY Face Primer
Creating a face primer is inexpensive and easy to do. Use equal parts oil free moisturizer and Milk of Magnesia. If there is no moisturizer available apply the Milk of Magnesia with a cotton ball or sponge. Let the thin coating dry for a minute. Then apply the foundation with a sponge or foundation brush.
If several drug store foundation primers or high end face primers have already been purchased, use them. Simply add a bit of the Milk of Magnesia to help boost the foundation primer results.
Some women have a personal preference of not wearing full coverage foundation. Add the home made primer mixture under tinted moisturizers, mineral powders, or any type of face powder that has a hint of pigmented color that matches personal skin tone.
Throughout the day even without a full coverage foundation the color that is added with the makeup will stay on. If no makeup at all is worn try two drops of moisturizer with one part Milk of Magnesia. Rub in the mixture to ensure there are no white marks. This application will help keep the visible shine down. This is especially helpful for men with oily skin who want to present their best appearance, but do not desire to use blotting papers or powders.
Cream Blush
Try various shades of cream blush over foundation, but before powder is added to set the makeup. L'Oreal Hip has a great inexpensive line of cream blushes. If only powder blush is available make sure to put an extra coat of the homemade primer on the apples of the cheeks for all day coverage. This works well if this is the part of the face that seems to have the most shine from natural oils.
Using this homemade primer can help bring new life to products that were thought to be ineffective. Drug store make up is fun to experiment with. Find similar drug store shades that work well before investing in more expensive department store or professional make up brands. Use these inexpensive beauty tips when applying make up to oily skin.

Post a CommentThe MOM trick works great!! My other favorite secret weapon against oil is Mattify! Ultra Powder. It has magnesium in it, creating the same effect as the MOM – but in dry, powder form. I use it under my makeup as a primer, and then over makeup to soak up even more oil. On days when I need my makeup finish to last really long, I use the MOM first, then after it dries use the Mattify Ultra over it before using foundation. The two together work wonders!
