Union, MO 63084
United States of America
Union, Missouri is the county seat of Franklin County, which is the third largest county in Missouri. The county court first met in June of 1827 in a log house that was located on the current court house square (virtually Union). It seems fitting that Founder's Day takes place every year on the court house square where Union was first founded.
Festivities are kicked off this year with the Union Founder's Day 10k run and 5k walk sponsored by the Union Chamber of Commerce. The race will begin at 7:30 am on Saturday, June 6th. The fee is only $10.00 and there will be prizes awarded like medals, $50.00 savings bonds, and $50.00 cash to the top winner. All ages can participate and can register at www.unionmochamber.org.
Other festivities like arts, crafts, music and food let the city of Union celebrate its roots on Founder's Day. You can find an activity for all most any age and interest. Arts and crafts booths will open at 9:00 for the crafty crowd. Family music, children's tent, and various games open at 11:00 am for families. They normally have turtle races, face painting, etc. as well. For adult entertainment, there will be a washer tournament, live music, food, and a beer garden open until 11:00 pm. Don't worry, there are several local bars in Union within walking distance if you're not ready for your night to be over at 11:00.
I do recommend Founder's Day for both kids and adults, but you may want get the kiddos out of there before dark as it can get rowdy at night. I like to take my daughter earlier in the day to enjoy the Founder's Day games and craft booths. My husband and I usually go back at night to socialize in the beer garden. You can always count on running in to someone you haven't seen in a while at Founder's Day.
If you're looking for cheap summer fun, I recommend checking out Founder's Day in Union on June 6th. Whether you're looking to play games, get the kids out of the house, listen to music, eat, or drink, there's something for everyone at Founder's Day in Union.
For more Founder's Day information including setting up craft booths, entering your child in the turtle races, or signing up your team for the washer tournament, visit the City of Union's Parks and Recreation Department.
