Here are four perks that job seekers should look for...
1. Sabbatical: Some employers realize that their employees have other interests besides the job. They also realize that continuous working can result in mental burn-out and less productivity. To help employees stay alert and energized, several companies offer paid or unpaid Sabbatical. Perhaps you want to take a few weeks off and travel to a foreign land with a religious group or charitable organization. Surprisingly, your employer might approve the request. Better yet - your company may continue to pay you a salary while away. The average length of a Sabbatical is one to four months.
2. Telecommute: Do you have children, but can't afford the high cost of daycare? If so, you may be surprised by the number of companies that offer telecommute positions. With a telecommute job, you're not required to go into the office. If you have a home computer, fax, and reliable internet connection, you may be a candidate for a legit work at home job. Even if you can't find advertisements for a telecommute job, consider starting your own home based secretarial business.
3. Set Your Own Hours: Like a telecommute position, jobs that allow employers to set their own hours are flexible and perfect for working parents. Even though you're allowed to set your own schedule, employers will generally establish a work hour minimum. Many customer call centers permit these arrangements. If you're simply looking for a little extra cash, apply for a position as a fill-in person. This type of job means you only work when someone is sick or away on vacation.
4. On-Site Childcare/Childcare Reimbursement: Are you looking for quality and affordable childcare? If so, look for employers that provide an on-site daycare. This is the perfect arrangement for nursing mothers, and employers who prefer not to be away from their children for nine hours a day. On-site childcare means being able to have lunch with your children, and check on them throughout the day. Some employers conveniently deduct childcare expenses from your paycheck, and others share the cost with you.
