Four Big Years - Rhyming Bids Played with My Kids

A Family's Rhyme to Celebrate the High School Years

Linda Ann Nickerson

Readers may not be at all surprised to learn that we often play rhyming games in our family. Here's one we concocted together, just for fun.

Remember high school? Know any high school students? Still in high school? Perhaps you will identify with these lines.

Four Big Years
A Rhyming Spool for Those in High School

Four years,
Four gears;
Shift em up.
We're out-a-here!

Oh, my gosh!
I'm just a frosh!
All these classes,
It's a wash!

Sophomores have all the facts,
Driving lessons to the max.
Cell phones, shopping, buy more gas -
Someone's gotta pay the tax!

Juniors know that they're hot stuff.
No more silly childish fluff.
Boys and girls are pairing up,
While moms and dads cry, "That's enough!"

Seniors start to see the light,
Future's looking very bright.
SATs and plans cause fright;
Maybe college will set them right.

Four years,
Four gears;
Shift em up.
We're out-a-here!
