Beverly Lewis
Beverly Lewis is perhaps the most well-known Christian fiction author who remains prolific in her writing and publishing to this day. Her fiction books, both historical and contemporary, set in the Amish area of Lancaster, Pennsylvania almost consistently appear on best-seller lists and are favorites at public libraries. Almost all of Lewis's plot lines follow the need for a main character to leave their Amish faith or for another character to decide to enter it. Occasionally the plots will rotate out of this sphere but hover nearby. Even with the consistent subject matter, Lewis always creates dynamic characters that make her books a pleasure to read.
Debbie MacComber
Debbie MacComber has written multiple sets of books focused on a particular place or group of characters. One of her more enduring series was set on Blossom Street. Debbie's books aren't always in your face religious or Christian, but religion ultimately plays a part in the story. The lack of consistent dwelling on faith though, makes these interesting reads for both the Christian and the entirely secular reader.
Janette Oke
Janette Oke wrote the highly popular Love Comes Softly series among many other classic volumes and Christian fictions sets. Love Comes Softly remains her benchmark set though and even was turned into a Hallmark Channel movie starring Katherine Heigl in her earlier years as a star. Unlike Beverly Lewis though, Oke has not remained particularly active in her later career though she has co-authored recent Christian fiction releases like the Acts of Faith series.
Suzanne Woods Fisher
Suzanne Woods Fisher also writes volumes set in the Amish world, but her plot lines are developed in a way that distances her work greatly from Beverly Lewis though she is developing a notoriety on par with that of Lewis. Suzanne Woods Fisher also recently stepped out of the fiction aspect of Christian writing and released a book of Amish Proverbs that was equally interesting.
All four of these ladies offer something a little bit different in terms of the type of book they write or the quality of the fiction, but all are extremely popular authors and extremely easy to read within the Christian fiction subset.
