Four Digital Camera Reviews

Thomas Haupt
Finding the right digital camera for you, a loved one, or a friend is very hard to do. There are so many different characteristics about the cameras that can come into play when trying to select one that is just right for your recipient.

People look online for many reviews of many products before they purchase them at the store, even if they plan on buy it actually at the store and not online. I strongly recommend gaining as much information as you can about the different makes and models of digital cameras before making any purchase towards one. Knowing is half the battle and if you don't research what different digital cameras can provide you will be guessing which digital camera will work for your recipient or yourself. And who likes guessing on a product that can cost hundreds of dollars?

The following is a list of my top choices of a camera. I personally have tried out these cameras before (I work in the electronics department at a major department store) and these are my thoughts on the brands. I am partial to Sony and Canon if you are looking for a brand, but some models are better than others. Here are my top cameras in no particular order.

Canon EOS 400 D/Rebel XTi Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens

This is one of the more expensive cameras on the market (starting at above $600) but its high quality is definitely worth the cost. The features on the camera are actually really easy to use even though you might be a little intimidated by the high price and look of the camera. Once you get a feel for the buttons, menu and where features are located, you will be grateful of how easy it is to use.

Another great thing about this digital camera is the picture quality. It is hard to explain in words how much clearer the picture are when on my computer or printed, but let's just say you can notice the difference right away. A great way to put it would be, it makes your pictures look professional even if you have had not photography schooling or this is your first time with a camera.

Along with the picture quality, the battery life is outstanding. Battery life on digital cameras is one of the things I look for the most and the Rebel is definitely a digital camera on the higher end when it comes to battery life.

One of the cons, other than being a little pricey for both the camera and its lenses, is its size. I am use to a smaller camera with fewer features, so the size might take a little bit to get use to. I have also heard through the grapevine that it might get scratched easily so you might want to buy a case (case is not included, another downside).

Canon PowerShot SD1000/ Digital IXUS 70

This is a great digital camera for the person who is not looking for some "professional" but for something that is smaller and lightweight that they can take with them wherever they want to go. The price is very reasonable, and its ease of use very good. Besides picture taking, you also have a video function which is great for taking short videos when you are out and about.

Another great feature is its larder LCD screen and its image quality.

The cons of the PowerShot SD1000 is that its battery life is average for a digital camera, and it doesn't have many manual settings to play around with. But if you would like to use it just as a regular camera and not really mess with the settings, than this digital camera might be the right one for you.

Canon Powershot S5 IS

Besides its fantastic image quality and great zoom features (10x USM zoom) this digital camera has a great video feature as well with some great manual settings. Uploading photos and video is a really cinch all with an affordable price.

Some cons include the average battery life and the memory card that is included. Also the auto-focus feature takes a little longer than usual for a regular digital camera. I have also heard from friends that they have had problems with the lens cap not securely attaching to the camera and falling off every once in awhile.

Sony Cybershot DSC T200

This digital camera is great when it comes to cool and interesting features. It has a pretty fast performance rate and has a touch screen to access other features, which seems to work out well for this camera than compared to past cameras who have tried the touch screen option.

The quality of picture is not a great as other models, but it still is a good choice for someone who is looking for a digital camera that is too professional.

I hope this little review helps you with your next digital camera purchase! Good luck!
